2020-03-19 - Seeking Clarification Re: Expectations for Business Closures

Previous Fredericton Chamber Updates:

MESSAGE TO MEMBERS – March 19, 2020, 9:00 am

Since yesterday’s (18 March 2020) news conference with Premier Higgs and Chief Medical Officer Jennifer Russell, a number of members have expressed confusion regarding the provincial government’s expectations in relation to business closures as part of the COVID-19 public health response.

We have reached out to our Chief Medical Officer Jennifer Russell, Premier Higgs and Mary Wilson, Minister of Economic Development and Small Business, looking for specific guidance for our members. We know you desperately want to do the right thing to curb the spread of COVID-19. We have asked for specific direction as to who must close and who can remain open.

We are also seeking additional and detailed information regarding the federal government’s support package announced yesterday and advocating more further direct support for business in the coming days.

We will share any information that we receive to provide clarity to the situation as soon as possible via all of our communication channels.

This is an unprecedented global crisis and our hearts are breaking for all impacted – our members and our community – we will do everything we can to help our business community and the community as a whole to weather this storm.
