About Us

The York Sunbury Historical Society was founded in 1932 to collect, preserve and interpret historical data, records and objects relating to the history of New Brunswick and the counties of York and Sunbury. The Fredericton Region Museum was established by the Society in 1959 in the former Officers' Quarters located in Officers' Square in the historic Garrison district. The Museum has exhibits featuring Wolastoqiyik (First Nations), Acadian, Loyalists, Black Heritage, 1st and 2nd World Wars, the popular Coleman Frog exhibit as well as a yearly temporary exhibit. It is a popular destination for schools, families and adults year round. The museum provides tours for youth, families and adults as well as programming geared towards youth. An Artist in Residence program brings artists into the museum every summer. Walking GEOTours explore the geological history of Fredericton as seen through historic buildings. Special events and activities occur throughout the summer and early fall so check us out online for the latest information.
Our balcony can be rented for special events giving visitors the best view of Officers' Square and downtown Fredericton.
The York Sunbury Historical Society is is a registered, not-for-profit charitable organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
